New date for Mediation 'Lunch Bite' announced

We are pleased to announce that we will be re-running our lunch bite, 'Mediation: What's it all about?', on Tuesday 14th September 2010.

The event will take place at the Skene Business Centre, 7 Queens Gardens, Aberdeen between 12 noon and 1.30pm.

Delegates who came to this event in June described it as 'very informative', 'interesting', 'educational' and 'thought-provoking'.  They had the chance to share their thoughts and experiences of conflict at work; and to find out more about how the process of mediation works.  All three of the firm's employment lawyers - Emma Anstead, Hayley Bloodworth and David Christie - facilitated the event and were on hand to answer questions.

"The lunch bite took as its starting point the fact that we have to deal with conflict every day", explains Emma.  "The question then becomes - how best do we deal with it?  At the lunch bite, we explored a number of options that are open to parties with a dispute or conflict at work.  These range from negotiation, through mediation to litigation before employment tribunals."

Most employment disputes are resolved by negotiation but mediation is becoming an increasingly attractive option for both employers and employees.  Time and money are two of the key factors.  Mediating a case will generally cost much less than litigation.  Whereas most employment tribunal claims can take anything up to year to resolve and often take longer, mediation allows parties to reach a solution within weeks, sometimes within days.

Numbers at the lunch bite in September will be kept small with a view to maximising delegate interaction.  We expect the lunch bite to over-subscribe and will therefore allocate places on a 'first come, first served' basis.  The lunch bite will benefit HR managers who have to deal with workplace conflict.
